Instructions

    • 1

Place the herbs and oil that you are using in a glass jar. Cover the jar tightly with a lid. Place the jar in a warm, sunny spot for two weeks. You can place the jar on a table inside a large picture window.

    • 2

After two weeks, strain the mixture into a double boiler. Pour the mixture into a piece of muslin or cheesecloth and while holding the cloth over the double boiler squeeze tightly to get out all the liquid.

    • 3

Once all the liquid is strained out into the double boiler, warm it over very low heat for about one hour.

    • 4

Let mixture cool completely before handling, then strain this mixture through the cloth back into the double boiler.

    • 5

For every cup of oil add 1/4 cup of beeswax and continue to warm mixture until beeswax melts completely.

    • 6

Once the beeswax has melted check for the desired consistency by placing a tbsp. of the mixture into the freezer for a couple minutes. Add more beeswax if it's too soft. Add more oil if it hardens too much.

    • 7

Once you have the desired consistency you can add the optional ingredients such as Vitamin E oil or lavender.

    • 8

Put the mixture into small jars to store.

Tips & Warnings

  • The consistency of the cream should be easy to spread yet still holds its shape.

  • This cream isn't just for diaper rash. It can also be used as a lip balm or to soothe chapped elbows, knees, hands and feet.

  • If using olive oil, buy a more expensive higher grade to avoid a strong olive scent.

  • If using lanolin, buy a medical grade such as lansinoh brand.

  • An ice tea glass jar works great for soaking the herbs in the oil.

  • If using an ice tea jar to soak your herbs in the oil, only use the jar for this purpose, do not use again for making tea.
