How to Keep Newborns Cool in the Summer
Keep your newborn cool using these tips and tricks while having some summer fun.
Instructions

Clothing
-
1
Begin by finding out what the weather will be every day you plan to leave with your newborn. Of course this is not always accurate but it can give you a ball park temperature and whether or not it will be completely sunny, overcast, or raining.
-
2
Dress your newborn in the least amount of clothes as possible. Newborns overheat very easily. Often times in mid-summer when the heat is in the 80's (depending on where you live), a onesie is sufficient.
-
-
3
Make sure your newborn is wearing a brimmed hat to block their face from the sun's rays and heat.
-
4
Take off all of your baby's clothes if you see fit. Just having on a diaper is sometimes sufficient enough.
Cooling Off With Water
-
5
Use the bottle of water and wet a washcloth. Wipe your newborn down with the wash cloth cooling off their temperature.
-
6
Repeat step 1 as often as you need to.
-
7
Put your baby in a pool. Get in the pool with your baby cooling the both of you off. Do this when the sun is down so they are not exposed to direct sunlight.
-
8
Give your newborn a bath. Take some time out of a hot day and give your little one a warm bath. After taking a bath your baby will be a cooler.
Keeping Mommy Cool
-
9
Keeping yourself cool is a great way to help your baby.
-
10
Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of liquids especially if you are breastfeeding. You want to keep your milk supply up for your baby's sake.
-
11
Keep in mind, if you are hot then your baby is probably hot. Pay attention to your newborn's demeanor. If they seem sluggish they may be overheating.
Baby's Environment
-
12
Recognize when your baby's environment is getting unbearable.
-
13
Keep your car cool when your newborn is in it. Try a sunshade to keep the heat from the sun out of the car and out of their face.
-
14
Remember to keep your baby cool inside of the house as well.
