How to Make an Oven Mitten
Everyone that cooks needs and uses an oven mitt. This oven mitt is easy to make and can be attractive. The wadding will keep it well insulated for those hot recipes. You will feel good when you tell your guests that it was your creation. You can even make several and hang for decorations in your home. Kids can even make little mini mitts for projects or to give away as gifts to parents or grandparents.
Things You'll Need
- Printed fabric of your choice 25 by 11 inches
- Paper to draw pattern
- Batting 25 by 21 inches
- Cotton fabric for lining 25 by 21 inches
- Thread
- Needle
- Sewing machine (optional)
- Wide seam tape
- Bobby pins

Place your hand on the paper used to draw your pattern. Keep your fingers spread apart. Draw around your hand until you have a rounded shape. You may draw a little bit above you hand to ensure that the oven mitt it large enough. Cut out the shape that you have drawn. This will be your pattern to sew your oven mitt.

Place the pattern that you have just cut onto the printed fabric. Cut two pieces. Repeat this step using the fabric for lining. Place the pattern on the batting and cut four pieces.

Place a piece of batting to the wrong side of each printed piece of fabric. Pin the material securely. Baste along the each of each piece, to secure the batting to the fabric. You may trim the edges.

Place the padded pieces with right sides together and stitch along the edges. Leave the bottom wrist areas open. Turn the wrist edges up and baste it along the edges. Turn mitten right side out.

Place the batting to plain mitt and pin together. Once the batting is secure sew together. Turn wrist edges under and pin to secure it. Sew along the wrist edges. Ensure that the stitches are even and straight. You may trim the edges.

Insert plain fabric mitt inside of printer fabric mitt with batting sides together until wrists edges match together. Ensure that the mitt is secure and tight.

Fold tape into a loop. Place it between the two layers on the back of mitt. Stitch along wrist area. In addition, stitch along the top of the mitt to hold the print and lining together.
