Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cleaning urine messes is a different process than cleaning solids. You need to get to urine stains right away, especially if you have carpet. The urine will bond with the carpet, making you pet want to return to that same area. Blot up the urine with an old towel. Then use the paper towel to gather up as much of the remaining urine as possible.

  2. Step 2

Spray the area with the mixture of white vinegar and water. Then dry with a new, clean towel. If the urine smell remains, use a cleaner with odor dissolving enzymes. Pet stores and vets will be able to recommend a good product.

  3. Step 3

Cleaning solid stains is nearly as simple. Pick up the solid mess with a paper towel. Then lightly brush the area with your detergent and water mixture until it is clean. Blot up the remaining liquid with a towel and spray with the vinegar and water solution. This should keep the odors away. If not, use the cleaner mentioned above.

  4. Step 4

Cleaning vomit and/or diarrhea can be a little more difficult. Use a paper towel to get up as much of the solid mess as you can. Then the brush the area with your detergent and water mixture.

  5. Step 5

Spray the area with a an enzymatic cleaner. Both vomit and diarrhea contain a multitude of bacteria.
