How to Build a Tire Swing
Tire swings are a great alternative to spending $50 to $100 to buy a commercially made swing. Tire swings are more fun than store-bought swings, and your kids are sure to love playing on them. The next time you change the tires on your car, keep the old tire and create a swing for your children's enjoyment. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean the tire first, as you don't want you children's clothes to become soiled when they swing on it. Use soap and water and give the tire a good scrub. Use a brush to get in between the treads.
-
2
Use a household drill to add a couple of small holes to the bottom of the tire. These holes will let out any water when it rains.

3
Make sure the rope you are using is long enough to go from the tire to the tree limb, with enough left over to tie in knots. The rope should be thick and strong enough that it can safely hold the swing and your child.
-
4
Place a ladder against the tree. Climb to the limb from which you want the swing to hang and tie the rope around it. (Make sure the swing is a bit of distance away from the tree trunk, so that your child doesn't end up hitting it when she uses the swing.) Double knot the tie so that it doesn't come loose. Now go under the limb and tie another knot for added support.
-
5
Bring your rope down to the desired length and slide it through the tire. Tie two knots on top, as you did on the tree limb. Then cut away any leftover rope.
-
6
Get on the swing and give it a test try before you put your precious offspring on it. If everything has gone smoothly, your child can then enjoy the swing instantly.
