Step 1
Find your current car insurance policy so you can compare what you have now to other policies that are available. Consider raising your deductible, foregoing additional coverage or reducing the amount of coverage you want in order to save more money.
-
Step 2
Find out the Kelly Blue Book value on your car (see Resources below). This will help you determine how much coverage to purchase. Older cars, for example may not need as much collision coverage as a new car.
-
Step 3
Visit several car insurance company websites. Obtain rates from at least three to compare rates and coverage options. Compare these quotes to your current policy.
-
Step 4
If you have any questions, email or ask to speak with a customer representative online. Having list of your questions allows you to find out everything you need to know before making your decision.
-
Step 5
Apply for your new policy online. This may take several minutes, but you will be able to lock in a rate and print out temporary insurance information and cards to put in your vehicle. You will also be able to create an account that includes information about your policy. You can make changes to this policy at any time as instructed on the car insurance website. You may also be able to pay for your policy online.
