  • Steam cleaner for hardwood - be sure it produces a dry steam that will not leave any water on the floor.
  • Broom and dustpan

      Make sure to completely sweep all visible dirt from your hardwood floors.

      You will want to purchase or rent a dry steam cleaner. Once you have your steam cleaner you will want to set it up. You will need to fill the steam cleaner with the prescribed amount of water, close the water recepticle, and plug the steam cleaner in.

      Most steam cleaners will take about five minutes to heat up sufficiently. Once the steam cleaner is ready a light will flash on the unit. You are ready to begin to clean your floors.

      Start in a corner and work your way around the room, using even strokes down the grain of the floor. You will want to clean in two foot square sections. You will do this because you will need to go over the floor with a dry rag because you do not want to leave any water droplets behind on the floor.

      Although your steam cleaner should not leave any puddling on your floor and you have already gone over it once with a dry towel you will want to give the floor a second once over with a towel to ensure it is dry.
