Creating a romantic bedroom is all about comfort, color and creating an atmosphere of relaxation and passion. Here are a few tips on how to create a romantic bedroom.

From Quick Guide: Home Decorating
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Throw pillows in muted colors
  • Fluffy bed pillows
  • Lamps
  • Scarves
  • Heavy drapery
  • Candles
  • Fluffy duvet cover or comforter
  1. Step 1

Make the bed. Choose muted colors rather than bright colors for your bedding. You want the room to be relaxing and romantic--not jarring. Good colors for a bedroom include dark maroon, beige, mauve, sage green and muted yellow. Fluffy bed pillows, comforters and throw pillows will create an enticing bed.

  2. Step 2

Cover the windows in heavy draperies of one solid color. The color of the draperies should complement the bedding, but not be of the same pattern as the bedding--therefore solid colored draperies work best.

  3. Step 3

Choose the lighting. Choose lamps with muted lampshades that complement the bedding and the draperies. Use bulbs that are a lower wattage than those you use in the rest of your home, as lower wattage lighting creates a more romantic atmosphere.

  4. Step 4

Drape scarves over the lamps. This creates an even more subdued lighting situation that will complement the romantic theme of your bedroom.

  5. Step 5

Place candles around the room. This will ensure a relaxed setting and add to the luxurious feel of the room.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't go overboard on room accessories, as clutter is not romantic
