    Looking Expensive, Spending Little

  1. Step 1

Stroll down Canal Street and you will find hundreds of shops, tables, and carts, all eager to sell you the latest trends at a great price. Most of them only take cash, but these street vendors carry loads of cool accessories, including necklaces, scarves, bracelets, and bags. Take advantage of these one-of-a-kind bargain hunter's fantasies.

  2. Step 2

Your next stop is Broadway and Houston, where, while there might be Prada, there are also locations for almost any discount fashion store you can think of. Try H&M or Zara for high-quality career clothing at a bargain. For fun accessories and trend items of less quality but less money, there is also a Forever 21 in close proximity.

  3. Step 3

If brand-name clothes are what you're looking for, try one of the discount department stores between on 6th Avenue. TJ Maxx (18th St) and Filene's Basement (14th St) offer high-end fashions at reasonable prices, and Old Navy (18th St) offers the same high-quality deals you'll find at your local mall, but with larger selection.

  4. Step 4

If you decide to go vintage, there is no shortage of opportunities in New York City. There is practically a vintage store on every block, but there are some that are cheaper and more authentic than others.Top picks:Rags-A-Go-Go, 14th & 7thCheap Jack's Vintage Clothing, 31st & 5th

  5. Step 5

Consignment stores tend to be a bit more pricey, but you pay for quality (and often high-end designer labels). Also, you can bring some of your own clothes to sell and maybe make a little cash to defray the cost.Top picks:Cockpit USA, Inc, 39th & 5thFisch for the Hip, 18th & 7th

  6. Step 6

If you've got a bit more cash to spare, hit up the fabled sample sales, which offer incredible discounts from the original prices of designer items, straight from the source. Find out about these on nysale.com.
