    Hawaiian Luau Decorations

  1. Step 1

Roll up your party invitations and stick them in a plastic water bottle about 2 weeks before the party. Did you know the post office will mail a plastic bottle for you? Just stick an address label on it and watch it float away. Consider giving it a snappy headline. "Help, I'm lost at sea. The natives are restless."

  2. Step 2

Start browsing for luau party decorations. Some vendors sell giant rolls of pre-printed paper that will turn your room into a grass hut with a view of the ocean. Just unroll them and tape the corners down. What could be simpler than that? If you're holding court outside, life-sized cardboard hula girl cutouts can stand in every corner of your yard. Tiki torches, potted palm trees and silk flower orchids will give your Hawaiian luau an air of authenticity.

  3. Step 3

Lay out the Hawaiian spread. That includes poi, lomi salmon, loco moco, lua-lau, kalua pork, barbecue chicken and short ribs. Don't forget the mac salad. If you don't want to make these yourself, call the Hawaiian BBQ restaurant near to deliver!

  4. Step 4

Tell your guests to wear a Hawaiian printed shirt, or collect a variety of secondhand Hawaiian flower printed shirts to give to your guests as they arrive. The pictures will look great and they'll have a great souvenir to remember the luau party forever. You can use leftover shirts as luau decorations.

  5. Step 5

Hire Polynesian dancers to entertain at your luau party and teach the guests how to do the hula dance.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use your old surfboard as a party table or luau decorations.
  • Real flower leis "rot" quickly. Have the florist deliver them the day of the party or use plastic.
