Things You'll Need:
- Recycling bins
- Recyclable razors and toothbrushes
- Biodegradable toilet paper
- Sewing kit
-
Step 1
Set up baskets or bins underneath the sink or in the linen closet where you can easily toss recyclable plastic, paper and glass. This will be more convenient for you to go around the house and collect when your waste collector picks up recyclable items. Shaving cream canisters, body wash bottles, shampoo and conditioner bottles, and lotion bottles can all be recycled.
-
Step 2
Purchase recyclable razors and limit the amount of shaving cream canisters you purchase. If your skin is not sensitive, you might be able to shave with soap and water.
-
Step 3
Purchase recyclable toothbrushes. For example, some toothbrushes can be sent back to the company and made into something else. There is also a more organic toothbrush made from a root, which does not require toothpaste and can also be composted after you are done using it. See the additional resources at the end of the article for more information on these items.
-
Step 4
Use thick, biodegradable toilet paper so you do not have to use as much. Instead of bunching the toilet paper up, fold it before wiping.
-
Step 5
Transform old towels and washcloths into something new. Use them to dry dishes or dry and wash the car. Sew two towels together and create a cover-up--make sure to leave a hole for your head and two holes for your arms.
-
Step 6
Clean your bathroom with essential oils and an old rag. Put 10 to 15 drops of lemon or cinnmon essential oil into a spray bottle filled with water. Then spray on counters and other surfaces and wipe with an old rag. This will prevent you from using disposable wipes, paper towels and harmful chemicals, because the old rag can be washed and used again.
-
Step 7
Limit your time in the shower and turn the water off in the sink when you are not using it. Also turn the lights off when you are not in the room or if there is enough sunlight.
