How to Grow Mandeville Flowers

Mandeville flowers are some of the most beautiful flowers around, and they come in several striking color varieties as well. A couple examples are the Pink Alice Dupont Mandeville flowers and the Dark Red Ruby Star Mandeville flowers. If you have just recently obtained these types of flowers as a gift or want to start a Mandeville flower garden, here are some instructions on how to properly grow and care for them.

Preparing to Grow your Mandeville Flowers

1. Decide on a spot to grow the Mandeville flowers by choosing a spot indoors, outdoors, or in a screened-in porch where the flowers will receive full, direct sunlight.

2. Purchase a medium-to-large Trellis at your local garden or home-improvement center so that your Mandeville flowers will have a place to sprawl out when they start to grow.

3. Install the Trellis in your back yard where your flowers can receive the most sunlight, or place it in another spot as discussed in Step 1.

4. Get the necessary food and nutrients for your Mandeville flowers by purchasing a high-phosphorus fertilizer at a local garden center to use on your flowers.

Growing Your Mandeville Flowers

1. Place your Mandeville plants in the spot you have chosen near or on the Trellis to insure that the flowers will be prepared to crawl once it sprouts and grows.

2. Water your Mandeville flowers every day during the summer. Water slowly, so that all of the soil gets thoroughly wet. Before watering a second time, make sure that the flowers have sufficient time to dry.

3. Help the flowers grow and climb by gently positioning the vines around the trellis. Once this has been done several times, the Mandeville vines will start to take over on their own.

4. Feed your Mandeville flowers every other week with the high-phosphorus fertilizer that was purchased in Step 4 of the first section.

5. Take the flowers and Trellis structure indoors once the outdoor night-time temperature starts dropping below fifty degrees Fahrenheit. Mandeville flowers should remain indoors during the cold winter months.

6. Proper care should be administered to the flowers in the winter months to encourage growth. Make sure they are sufficiently watered, allowing the Mandeville flowers to dry completely between waterings, and make sure they receive plenty of the high-phosphorus fertilizer as well.
