Things You'll Need:

  • Online or print horoscope

The Future is in the Stars

  1. Step 1

Find yourself a newspaper or an astrology website and find their horoscope section. In newspapers it is usually in the "Entertainment" or "Lifestyle" sections, while on a website you will usually find find a link on the homepage. Astrological charts can be drawn up for any period of time, so make sure you know whether you are looking at a daily, weekly or monthly horoscope.

  2. Step 2

Once you have found the horoscope you need to know how the different signs line up with different birthdays. Find your birthday in this list, and the corresponding sign is your sun sign. Aries: March 21 — April 19Taurus: April 20 — May 20Gemini: May 21 — June 21Cancer: June 22 — July 22Leo: July 23 — August 22Virgo: August 23 — September 22Libra: September 23 — October 22Scorpio: October 23 — November 21Sagittarius: November 22 — December 21Capricorn: December 22 — January 19Aquarius: January 20 — February 18Pisces: February 19 — March 20

  3. Step 3

Your sun sign, which is what is covered in most horoscopes, is the constellation that lined up with the Sun and the Earth on the day you were born. As the Earth revolves around the Sun, this line goes through a cycle of the signs, and the sign that sign lines up on the day you were born defines your basic personality and influences your destiny. Once you know your sun sign, use it to figure out your basic personality traits.Aries: The Ram. "I am". Fiery, aggressive, brave and excitable.Taurus: The Bull. "I have". Hard-working, solid, resourceful and calm.Gemini: The Twins. "I think". Intellectual, curious, whimsical and talkative.Cancer: The Crab. "I feel". Emotional, sensitive, protective and compassionate.Leo: The Lion. "I will". Proud, creative, dramatic and intense.Virgo: The Virgin. "I analyze". Practical, serious, calm and reserved.Libra: The Scales. "I balance". Balanced, diplomatic, fair and cooperative.Scorpio: The Scorpion. "I desire". Secretive, passionate, determined and ambitious.Sagittarius: The Archer. "I see". Sensual, outgoing, joyous and extroverted.Capricorn: The Sea-goat. "I use". Industrious, reasonable, pragmatic and patient.Aquarius: The Water Bearer. "I know". Reserved, intellectual, unconventional and curious.Pisces: The Fishes. "I believe". Empathic, imaginative, dreamy and accepting.

  4. Step 4

Now find your sign on the horoscope. This is an interpretation by a trained astrologer of how the current positions of the stars and planet should affect each sign. There should be a general statement about the forces that are at work in your life, which you will find is often very accurate.

  5. Step 5

Now comes the hard part. You need to apply what you have learned to your current situation. If you have discovered you are a talkative Sagittarius and the horoscope says that communications will go poorly that day or week, then you need to curb your natural tendencies. However, if you are a dramatic Leo who happens to be an actor and the horoscope says to "make a big splash today for great results", then you should take your normal personality up a notch and show the world what you can do. The interpretation and personalization of a horoscope is what makes it useful to people, but it can also be tricky. Pay attention to what's going on in your life and how to avoid pitfalls while taking advantage of the opportunities provided by reading your horoscope.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to compare various horoscopes for more details.
  • Don't use astrology as a crutch. Use it to inform your decisions, not make them for you.
