How to Manage Myositis

Myositis is the swelling and/or loss of muscles. It can be caused by injury, medication, infection or exercise. There are two types of myositis: Temporary and chronic. The symptoms are muscle weakness or pain, fatigue, trouble climbing, standing, reaching or swallowing. There is no cure for myositis.

      Seeing your doctor regularly is the best way to maintain good health. New ideas and treatments are created, or found, every day and your doctor may have something new for you to try. Keep your doctor apprised of how your condition is progressing.

      Monitor your condition. If you have a serious case of myositis, then you must be monitored carefully. This may mean that you need more than the help of your friends and family. You may be required to hire an in-home nurse to visit you and care for your needs. You may also need to see your doctor more frequently.

      Stay positive. Try not to get depressed over your condition. Try to remain positive. It can be an immense help to join a support group . Create a support team that you can call when you start feeling down in the dumps.
