1
Boil one cup of water. The easiest way to do this is to microwave the water in the glass measuring cup on high for 2 minutes. It should reach a rolling boil by the end of this time period.
-
2
Steep the bran in the boiling water for 15 minutes. This will create an infusion called, appropriately, bran water.
-
-
3
Strain out the bran. You can catch the bran water in the plastic container.
-
4
Place the plastic container near the kitchen sink. Make sure that it is away from the area where you keep dirty dishes or you may end up emptying it out and washing it without thinking.
-
5
Dip your hands in the bran water four times each day. You should be sure to do this after washing your hands, doing the dishes or cleaning.
-
6
Dab your hands dry with the soft washcloth each time you dip them in the bran water. Do not rub them dry as this just contributes to chafing. Also, be sure to use the soft washcloth rather than a rough dish towel, which can injure skin and cause minute tears that you cannot see but certainly will feel.

Tips & Warnings
In addition to the bran water, you may wish to moisturize your hands nightly with an oatmeal based cream. You can wear thin cotton gloves to keep them soft and protected during the night.
A few people have such sensitive skin that even bran water causes increased chapping. If you notice that your hands are red or sore, discontinue the bran water treatment and consult a dermatologist.
