How to Build a Camp Stove

Homemade camp stoves can can be built with a few simple tools. This comes in handy if you have to back pack into your campsite or you may just be on a hike and need to heat up some coffee.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 oz can
  • 6 oz can
  • Hole Punch
  • Manual Can Opener
  • Sharpie Marker
  • Needle Nose pliers
  • Dremel-type rotary tool
  • File
  • Denatured alcohol

    The Best Camp Stove Ever

  1. Step 1

    Cut the lids off the 3 oz. and 6 oz cans. The best cans to use for this camp stove is tuna cans or cat food cans.

  2. Step 2

    Use a Sharpie to mark eight dots in a circle on the bottom of the larger can. The dots should be about 1 1/2 inches across from each other. These dots need to be on the inner circle of the large can.

  3. Step 3

    Connect the dots with your Dremel-type rotary tool and pop the piece of metal out of the center of the can. File the edges until they are smooth and not jagged. Take the can opener and put triangular holes all around the outside of the can.

  4. Step 4

    Use the hole punch on the smaller can and make holes all around the rim of the smaller can. Use needle-nose pliers to uncurl the tips of the tabs on the larger can. click for higher resolution picture Insert the smaller can into the larger can.click for higher resolution picture. Push in on the tabs to rebend them and to secure the inner can.

  5. Step 5

    Add fuel to your stove. Main burner: One ounce of fuel will last about 10 minutes. It takes about 6 minutes to boil 2 cups of water.Simmer burner: A 1/2 ounce of fuel will last about 30 to 45 minutes.
