Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Newspaper
  • Water
  • Flour
  • Medium sized bowl
  • Spoon
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Tracing paper
  • Ping pong ball
  • Long balloon
  • Wire
  • Green paint
  • Super glue
  1. Step 1

Mix together your paper mache mix. This consists of 1/3 flour and 2/3 water for the mix. You should use enough mix that will almost fill a bowl.

  2. Step 2

Cut shreds of newspaper. One or two newspapers will be enough for one dragon fly. Make the strips about three inches long, but it does not have to be exact.

  3. Step 3

Blow up a long balloon. These are the balloons that clowns make balloon animals out of.

  4. Step 4

Twist the balloon so that there is a small ball at the end. This is the head of the dragonfly. Tie a string around the twist so that the balloon will stay in this area.

  5. Step 5

Twist the balloon again about three inches down from the first twist. This will represent the upper body of the dragonfly. Tie a string around this area so it will stay in place as well.

  6. Step 6

Dip the strips of paper into the paper mache mix and begin to layer the strips around the balloon. Repeat this process until there are about three to four layers of newspaper around the balloon.

  7. Step 7

Let the paper mache dry for a few hours or even overnight. When the mix has dried, paint over the paper mache with a greenish color paint.

  8. Step 8

Super glue three pipe cleaners to each side of the dragonfly. These represent the legs of the dragonfly and should be placed in the middle section of the insect. Bend the piper cleaners in the middle to showcase a bent and proper leg.

  9. Step 9

Paint a ping pong ball black and cut it in half. These halves will represent the eyes of the dragonfly and can be super glued right onto the top of the head of the dragonfly.

  10. Step 10

Use wire to form the wings of the dragon fly. Tape pieces of tracing paper in-between the wire to show the translucence’s of the wings and then attach the wings to the center of the dragonfly.

  11. Step 11

Discard any extra supplies and clean up the materials.
