If your Bronco's radiator goes kaput then it needs to be removed. Get ready to get dirty and scrape some knuckles because removing a radiator from any car is just that kind of job. Want to get that Bronco buckin' again? Follow these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Wrenches
  • Pliers
  • Screwdrivers
Step1
Drain that pain. If your Radiator's been a pain in the you-know-what, then before removal, it needs to be drained first. It will be much lighter and far less of a mess when you disconnect the hoses. Remove the cap, then find the twist valve at the bottom and drain it into a container you can use to recycle.
Step2
Radiator Hose and Clamps Remove the hoses. There should be three: Two main hoses to the engine and one that leads to the reserve or overflow tank. Just loosen the hose clamps on the main hoses and pull the reserve hose off where it attaches just below the radiator cap.
Step3
Under the Bronco Hood Find the bolts that attach the radiator to the frame. Loosen and remove them, starting with the bottom bolts.
Step4
Radiator Lift out out the radiator. It will be heavy and very dirty so be sure to have solid footing when pulling it up.
Step5
You're done. Now get ready to get dirty all over again when you install the new radiator.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you jack up the front end, it will be easier to drain the radiator into a container.
  • Wear gloves to protect your knuckles.
  • Never mess with the radiator while it's hot.
