Things You'll Need:
- Tight black pants
- Adult button-down white shirt
- Boots
- Red bandana
- Shoebox
- Costume jewelry
- Clip-on hoop earring
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Black felt
- Black spray paint
-
Step 1
Cut an eye patch out of the black felt. It can be as big or little as you want, but make sure it is at least as large as your child's eye.
-
Step 2
Spray paint the shoe box black. The shoe box will be a treasure chest when you are done with the costume.
-
Step 3
Long sleeves can also hide store-bought accessories like a hookDress your child in the black pants, over-sized shirt and boots. You should blouse out the shirt so it appears to be flowing and elegant. If the sleeves are too long, you can roll them up like a proper sailor or she can wear them "pirate-style"--too big because real pirates do not have mothers to help them pick out their clothes.
-
Step 4
Thread a piece of yarn through both sides of the eye patch. Make sure the yarn is long enough to tie around the pirate's head.
-
Step 5
Tie the eye patch on. Do not tie the knot so tightly that the felt presses against your child's eye.
-
Step 6
Clip on the gold earring. If the earring pinches, place small wad of cotton in between the back of the earring and the ear.
-
Step 7
Knot the red bandana around your child's head. You can use it as a headband or cover their hair. This will also help hold the eye patch on.
-
Step 8
A true pirate never leaves home without his treasure chestFill the shoebox with the costume jewelry. Your pirate can also use this to hold his candy when he goes trick-or-treating. Now, you and your pirate are ready to head out in search of tricks, treats and pirate treasure!
