With a few steps it is possible to make that small room look bigger.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A little time
  1. Step 1

To make a small room look bigger, have a lot of light in the room. Use blinds to maximize sunlight. If you have drapes, hang them high to give the room the appearance of being higher. Use furniture with open arms and exposed legs to maximize the flow of light.

  2. Step 2

Mirrors make small rooms look bigger. Mirror closest doors or hang a large mirror on a wall. Putting mirrors on one wall will make the room look bigger.

  3. Step 3

To make a small room look bigger, use larger and fewer pieces of furniture. Avoid multiples of things such as end tables, lamps, and pictures. Place things toward the corners of the room.

  4. Step 4

Use white paint or other soft colors to make a small room look bigger. Paint all the walls in different tones of the same color to give an appearance of receding space. Use lighter colors for borders and trim. This color scheme will give the appearance that the walls are farther back. Use darker colors for accent pillows, bedskirts, tableskirts, and curtain ties.

  5. Step 5

Arrange furniture at an angle when possible.
