How to Handle Life When Hope Is Overdue

There's a proverb that states, "Unrelenting disappointment leaves you heartsick; but a sudden good break can turn life around." Disappointment is all about thwarted hopes, and when it is unrelenting, those hopes are deferred, delayed, postponed and overdue. Hopelessness (hope that is overdue) causes despair, a belief that no better way exists of resolving a problem, situation or circumstance. When things are hopeless, we tend to lose our desire to try and therefore just give up. We doubt that any help is possible. We're heartsick and overflowing with pain and sorrow. To prepare for those unexpected defining moments when life seems hopeless, consider taking the following steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Faith
  • Positive Mindset
  • Reality Check
  • Time for Introspection
  1. Step 1

Get ready to wait. Perseverance and patience will be needed to successfully navigate the rough sea of hopelessness.

  2. Step 2

Change your place. Remove yourself from negative people and environments to those where you can grow.

  3. Step 3

Look for sudden good breaks. There is life and joy anew when our dreams and desires come true. Suddenly there's a break in the gloom...a healthy change of scenery. Energy and enthusiasm flow generously and our attitude reverses its negative course. Sudden breaks can be overlooked if we're not careful; so cultivate an air of expectancy and anticipation and look for opportunities in every circumstance.

  4. Step 4

Nurture your dreams. Envision the positive results of your dreams. See in your mind's eye the satisfaction you will derive from achieving your goals.

  5. Step 5

Have faith. Believe that your life can be turned around and your heartsickness cured. Eliminate any negative self-talk and doubt.

  6. Step 6

Help others who are heartsick. Seek out someone whom you can encourage, nurture and guide from hopelessness to fulfillment. It's never too late to turn your back on hopelessness and get a fresh grip on life!
