How to Use the Pilates Cadillac

The Pilates Cadillac machine is something that many people who do Pilates at home or through a class have probably never even seen or heard of before. Once you do see the machine, you might be a little apprehensive to try it for yourself, mainly because it looks so complicated. The machine is designed to work all the muscle groups in your body in one workout. It’s easy to use the Pilates Cadillac machine to work every muscle in your body in one long workout.

      Use the leg springs to work your upper and lower legs along with your hamstrings. You simply need to lay down on the machine and place your ankles inside the straps attached to the leg springs. Then lift your legs straight up in the air and bring them down for several repetitions.

      Lay down on the Cadillac with your head facing in the opposite direction as it did when you used the leg springs. Place your hands inside these same springs to work the muscles in your arms. You can raise and lower your arms and the resistance of the springs will help you work those muscles.

      Take advantage of the trapeze bar on the Pilates Cadillac to add some balance to your workout and to use several muscle groups at one time. You can do the Pilates 100 while holding this bar or stand on the machine and hold the bar in your hands while you do some basic ballet moves. The trapeze bar forces you to maintain proper posture and balance while working out.

      Utilize the top of the machine for chin ups and stretching exercises. With the chin ups you can practice holding your legs out in front of you while doing the movement to build up your abdominals at the same time. You can also start out by holding onto the bars and raising your legs up off the bottom of the machine to build up the muscles in your lower body.

      Practice doing your regular Pilates exercises, but incorporate using the different parts of the machine to add to your workout. For example you can do sit ups while holding onto the trapeze bar or do leg lifts with the leg springs. This way you’ll force your body to put more effort into the workouts and see more results.

Tips & Warnings

  • Look into local Pilates studios if you’re not ready to invest in a Cadillac machine of your own. Many studios offer lessons and let students use the machines on their own.

  • Let yourself build up to doing some of the more complicated routines and movements on the machine and don’t force yourself to immediately start doing the movements. It takes some time to do the more complicated moves.
