Unfortunately the rising cost of gas, energy, and food has many families opting to stay home for vacation. Don’t let this window of opportunity get you down. With a little creative thinking, your vacation can be a fun experience for the entire family.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Local Paper
  • Creative thinking
Step1
Check your local paper

The paper is filled with many summer activities for your family. From festivals to carnivals, there’s something to please everyone.
Step2
Visit Your City

Go spend the day at a museum, putt-putt, go-carts, theme park, or the zoo. Many museums are free. If not, they may offer a free or a discount day. Contact your local museum for more information.
Step3
Go Fishing

One of my best childhood memories with my father was when we went fishing. Take this opportunity to re-discover your child through conversation.
Step4
Visit other family

This is a great opportunity for your children to visit cousins, aunts, uncles, grandma, and grandpa. Bring a camera and take plenty of pictures. Later, you can make a scrapbook with your family online or in the traditional way. The key here is to have fun and be creative.
Step5
Go Hiking

Pull the kids away from T.V. and electronic games. The kids might rebel at first but give it time. Take this opportunity to go for a nature walk. Go out and explore the world around you. So many kids are trapped inside they have no idea about the world around them. As a family, we enjoy hiking in national parks along the trails. I encourage you to bring binoculars and plenty of water. You’ll be surprised what all you will hear and see.
Step6
Go Camping

Camping is another great way for exploration, learning, and seeing the world. Contact your local park or look through your local guide for camp ground location. If you wish to stay a little closer to home use your backyard.

Tips & Warnings

  • What ever you do, have fun and enjoy your kids.
  • Build memories that will last a lifetime.
