How to Change a Decimal to a Percent

Converting from decimals to percentages involves moving the decimal point.

In elementary school math, sometimes you will be asked for a percentage, but the only information that you are given is a decimal. Changing a number from a decimal to a percent is a simple process using multiplication. Students should ultimately learn to convert among fractions, decimals and percents.

Instructions

1. Choose a decimal to convert. For example, suppose that you need to convert 0.03 to a percentage.

2. Multiply 0.03 by 100. You can also simply move the decimal point two places to the right.

3. Write down the answer, 3. Now add the percentage sign to complete the problem: 3%.
