What is long-term career perspective and how does it form? This perspective is a career outlook that carefully and continually considers the effect of today's actions on future ones. Developing a long-term perspective about your career requires commitment, purpose and binding yourself to a fixed course of action. Take these steps to develop an action-oriented long term perspective about your career.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Maximize your career value. Always consider the decisions or activities that will help you to be more effective a year from now than you are today.

  2. Step 2

Cultivate patience. Long-term career goals are often the most meaningful and important ones. But the achievement of these goals is usually far in the future. Because of this, you may have trouble staying focused and maintaining a positive attitude toward reaching them.

  3. Step 3

Think strategically. Practice forward thinking and the art of the long-view. Develop a Career Roadmap and set of actions that will keep you energized and focused on the big picture.

  4. Step 4

Never give up. Stay focused on your roadmap until each step is completed.

  5. Step 5

Lighten up. Balance your intensity and refuse to wear yourself out trying to get rich. Exhibit the joy that comes from a refreshed and balanced life.

  6. Step 6

Decide what you hope to achieve. Pledge your resources and career skills to achieve the career goals you have set.
