Most laptops look pretty much the same, beyond being black, silver or perhaps white. But you can give your device a distinctive look, one that recalls an era of family station wagons. Learn how to create a "woody" laptop.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cardboard
  • Wood
  • Sandpaper
  • Linseed oil or varnish
  • Wood glue
  • Clamps
  • Tools to disassemble the laptop
  • Ruler
  1. Step 1

Make a template for a woody laptop. Measure the front and back of your laptop so that you can make a veneer that fits your device. Use a piece of cardboard or something stiff to make the template.

  2. Step 2

Place your templates of the front and back of the laptop's cover on the back of the wood you have chosen.

  3. Step 3

Cut your wood carefully so that the cuts are even. Sand any rough edges.

  4. Step 4

Finish the wood with linseed oil, varnish or polyurethane.

  5. Step 5

Brush a thin, even layer of glue on the back of the wood pieces.

  6. Step 6

Apply glue to the screen bezel, then the clamp wood it down.

  7. Step 7

Create holes for latch releases to keep the veneers in place. An X-acto knife works well for this purpose.
