Dandruff can be caused by fungal infections, poorly manufactured shampoos or even stress. However, many people with dandruff find that the root of the problem is actually in their daily diet. If you have been suffering from dandruff and cannot find a medical remedy for the problem, consider changing your diet to alleviate, and potentially eliminate, your symptoms.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Fresh fruits
  • Raw vegetables

Step1
Some experts recommend that you start out your dandruff-fighting diet with three days of nothing but fruit. Focus on fresh fruits. You should avoid canned fruits, citrus fruits and bananas. Instead, eat large amounts of apples, pineapples and melons.
Step2
Eat your vegetables raw. Cooking vegetables leaches valuable nutrients out of them. These nutrients can help keep your scalp healthy and prevent the fungus that may be living on your head from being able to get nutrients from your scalp.
Step3
Give up caffeine. Coffee and tea dehydrate the body as a whole and make your skin more susceptible to dandruff. If you cannot quit cold turkey, at least cut down.
Step4
Eat organically raised meat. The chemicals and medicines that conventionally raised cattle ingest with their food can throw your entire bodily system out of balance and make you susceptible to skin problems and other health issues.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are not sure if a food is good for your anti-dandruff diet, consider whether or not it is processed or refined. If it is still close to its natural state, then the food is probably okay to eat.
  • If your dandruff continues to worsen, consult a dermatologist.
  • Work with a dietitian to be sure that your new diet does not leave you malnourished.
