How to Take Apart a Doorknob

Whether it is because you need a new lock or just a new look you can take apart a doorknob easily. Read further to find out what steps to take so that you can take apart a doorknob.

Instructions

1. 

   Unscrew the screws on the metal plate. These are located on the door between the two handles. The metal plate needs to be removed. You may have to help pry it off gently with the screwdriver.

2. 

   Remove the remaining screws. These screws are located on each doorknob. They are either below or to the side of each doorknob. Unscrew the screws and put them aside.

3. 

   Pull apart the two doorknobs until they pull away from the door. Check to make sure all screws are taken out. Place them down and out of the way.

4. 

   Unscrew the screws on the strike plate. This is located on the door frame. Take it off and put it aside.

5. Install the new doorknob by following the instructions on the enclosed instructions guidelines found inside the doorknob package.
