Find American-Made Toys

Many parents want to buy more American-made toys to avoid the scary safety recalls that often happen with toys made overseas. Surprisingly, though, American-made toys can be difficult to find. There's a wide variety of toys made in the United States, but you may have to pay more for them and do some research to find them. See Resources below for vendors mentioned in steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Shop at local, smaller toy stores or specialty stores. These stores are more likely to carry toys made by local companies. Be prepared to spend more than you would for mass-produced toys.

    • 2

Check your local Target, Kids-R-Us or FAO Schwartz for special departments that contain only American-made toys.

    • 3

Browse the All-American Baby website for a range of toys for infants, including manipulative toys and soft toys.

    • 4

Look for classic toys, like Marble King marbles, Silly Putty, yo-yos and Slinkys, many of which are still made in America.

    • 5

Find dolls and plush toys from the online stores of American manufacturers. Dolls by Jeri carries a range of collectible and plush dolls. Big Plush and the Stuffington Factory make teddy bears and other stuffed animals in the United States.

    • 6

Check out play furniture from Willow Toys, which makes wood products or plastic products from Little Tikes or American Plastic Toys.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check out the label and the company carefully before buying. Many toys are designed and licensed by American companies but manufactured elsewhere.
