Things You'll Need:
- Flat-file storage cabinet
- Archival polyester bags
- Frames
- Acid-free mats and backings for frames
-
Step 1
Store your maps by either keeping them in a flat-file storage cabinet or framing them. However, even in the modern world, there are still factors that could damage your map, such as moisture and sunlight.
-
Step 2
You can buy a flat-file storage cabinet at most art supply stores. Put your map in an archival polyester bag to store it in the cabinet.
-
Step 3
Frame sea maps to display them, as an alternative to the flat-file storage cabinet. Make sure your mats and backing boards are acid-free, to prevent yellowing of the map. In addition, ensure that the frame has vents so that moisture cannot build up inside. Keep the frames where the sun cannot shine directly on the map, as sunlight is damaging to paper.
-
Step 4
Don't roll your maps unless you need to ship them. Even then, don't roll them tightly, as this causes stress on the material's fibers.
