Break a Weight Loss Plateau

When you first started your diet, you were really successful. The pounds just seemed to fall off without too much effort. However, now you've suddenly reached a plateau and can't seem to lose anymore. Here are some tips on how you can break a weight loss plateau.

Remove juices, sodas and alcohol from your diet altogether. If you were a heavy person used to consuming 4000 calories per day, and have cut back to 2800 calories per day, it stands to reason that you've lost weight. However, now you need to dial your caloric intake back even more. By skipping the soda, alcohol and juice, you are removing sugar calories from your diet. Those sugar calories are empty and harder to burn because there is no fiber for your body to work to break down. Stick with water and a multi-vitamin to break the plateau.

Hire a personal trainer. There's a reason that personal training is a billion dollar industry, because they work. Think about it, you hire a doctor to help you keep healthy medically because they have been schooled in the physics, mechanics and biology of the body. The same goes for personal trainers. They'll have you working muscles you didn't even know you had by creating an ever-changing workout routine.

Increase the number of times you are active during the day. Another way to break the weight loss plateau is to break-up your exercise routine. If you did 45 minutes of weight training, followed by 45 minutes of cardio, your body not only gets used to that routine, but it then becomes sedentary for the next 22 hours. Try weight training in the morning. Then buy a stationary bike and bike for 45 minutes while you watch TV at night.

Avoid eating after 7 o'clock at night. Those extra 300 or 400 calories that you consume right before bed can keep you stuck in a weight loss rut. Even though it's just a small snack it'll cause your body to work on those calories throughout the night instead of the ones you consumed at dinner. So while you won't suddenly jump 2 pounds in the morning, the scale won't be going down either.

Add more fiber to your diet. Having more fiber in your diet is a secret trick of the trade. When your body breaks down food, it must work harder to break down foods with a lot of fiber (fruits and vegetables). But if you're sick of fruits and veggies, there's another way. Use the powdered forms of fiber that can be added to a glass of water. That way if you make a chicken sandwich with your glass of water, you've suddenly made it harder for your body to digest the food, making it burn more calories and helping you break through your weight loss plateau.

Take a nice relaxing steam at the gym. When your body temperature rises, your body goes into overdrive trying to cool itself off by sweating. So by taking a quick steam, you'll remove toxins through your sweat glands, while also causing your body to burn more calories to keep your body cool.
