How to Adopt a Polyphasic Sleep Schedule
Polyphasic sleep is the method of breaking up your sleep patterns so that you only sleep 2 to 6 hours per day, in small increments. This technique may work for you if you need more waking hours in your day but still need to feel alert.

1
Understand that the transition to Polyphasic sleep isn't easy. It can take your body 7 to 10 days to get used to your new sleep routine. During this time, you will be extremely tired.
-
2
Prepare yourself for the transition period. Request time off work because you won't have the energy needed to complete commitments. Decide on the schedule you will use. You need to sleep at the same times every day, just as you would sleep at the same times every night if you use the traditional sleep schedule. Make a list of things to do while you are awake. You need activities that will keep you awake. Watching television is probably not a good idea.

3
Decide whether you want to make one sleep time a period of core sleep that is longer than the rest, or have all of your sleep time the same length. Usually, the period of core sleep takes place during the nighttime.
-
4
Use an alarm clock to wake yourself when your period of sleep is over. Without an alarm clock, you won't wake up on your own.
-
5
Adopt a Polyphasic sleep schedule gradually by beginning with 4 to 6 naps taken during the day. Make sure these naps are at least 90 minutes long, which is the approximate length of a normal sleep cycle. Naturally, you will sleep less during the night. Continue the cycle by take naps again the next day. Gradually change your sleeping times to what you desire.
