You want a new look for your living room, but you don't want to spend a lot of money buying new furniture or painting. What you can do to revive your living room is arrange your furniture in a new layout. This is a cheap and easy way to accomplish your new look.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper and pencil
  • Furniture-moving pads (optional)
  1. Step 1

Step back and look around. Take in the look of your current layout and make mental notes of what's working and what you can improve.

  2. Step 2

Map out a plan. Measure your room dimensions as well as your key pieces of furniture, which are your couches, chairs and entertainment centers. If you regularly use coffee or end tables, include those in your measurements.

  3. Step 3

Choose a focal point. It's best to arrange your furniture around a central point in your living room, whether that is a fireplace, a window or the entertainment center.

  4. Step 4

Diagram your furniture arrangement. Place your furniture on your paper as you'd like to see it. Compare your diagram with the measurements from Step 2 to see if this layout will work. Take into consideration heating vents and windows that you may have to work into your plan.

  5. Step 5

Move your furniture. If you can, empty out your living room as much as possible to have a clean slate. If you can't do that, simply move your furniture to one end of your living room.

  6. Step 6

Begin arranging your furniture. Start with the largest pieces, such as your sofa and entertainment center. For ease in moving your larger pieces, use furniture-moving pads that you can buy at your local home improvement or furniture store.

  7. Step 7

Finish your living room's new look. Fill in your remaining furniture so it's practical and functional. Add an area rug to complement the new arrangement of your living room furniture.
