If you want to adopt a purebred dog, there are many places where you can get one. You can purchase a new puppy, which is sometimes rather expensive. You might find a purebred adult dog for a lower price at local shelters. In addition, you can sometimes get purebred dogs free when their owners are looking for new homes for them.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide which type of dog you want. Perhaps you want a particular breed or just a particular size. Research the temperaments of the different breeds in which you are interested to find the best choice for your family.

  2. Step 2

Find a reputable breeder who breeds the dog you want, if you want a puppy. Before you purchase a puppy, look around the establishment to make sure the breeders take good care of the dogs.

  3. Step 3

Check rescue shelters and humane societies. It is very common to find purebred dogs in these places. You can call the shelters in your area and ask them to call you if a particular breed shows up. They will be happy to let you know because they want to find good homes for all of their animals very quickly.

  4. Step 4

Search for a rescue group that is breed-specific. You can find these easily using your favorite search engine. Simply type in the name of the breed, the word "rescue" and the state in which you live.

  5. Step 5

Look in the classified ads in your local newspaper or at ads listed at local animal kennels or humane societies. Often, loving owners of purebred dogs have to get rid of their pets for some reason, and they will give them away or charge a very small fee just to ensure they go to a loving home.
