Cutting a deck of cards with one hand is not easy, but with practice, you can learn how to do this method so that it looks simple and flawless.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

    The Basic Grip

  1. Step 1

Hold the deck of cards lengthwise between your thumb on one side of the deck and your ring finger and middle finger on the other. Hold it so that the backs of the cards are facing out and the faces of the cards are facing the palm of your hand.

  2. Step 2

Place your pinkie finger underneath the deck to balance it, and keep the cards from falling out of the deck.

  3. Step 3

Curl your pointer finger behind the deck so that the back of your finger is up against the cards.

  4. Do the Cut

  5. Step 1

Hold the cards in the basic grip so that the deck is vertical.

  6. Step 2

Split the deck in half, holding the upper portion of the deck between your middle and ring fingers and your thumb and letting the bottom half of the deck fall off your thumb and onto your curled pointer finger.

  7. Step 3

Pull back your pointer finger a bit, causing the bottom half of the deck to fall into your palm. Keep the pointer finger against the top edge of the cards.

  8. Step 4

Push the bottom half of the deck up with your pointer finger so the two halves of the deck form an upside-down V.

  9. Step 5

Continue pushing the bottom half of the deck upward with your pointer finger so that the bottom half of the deck goes up over the top half of the deck and the top half falls onto the pointer finger, using your thumb to push the top portion of the deck.

  10. Step 6

Use your pointer finger, which should now be curled behind the entire deck, to push the deck off your palm and back into the basic grip position.

  11. Step 7

Straighten up the cards with your fingers against the sides of the cards as you hold them in the basic grip.
