How to Impress Someone on a First Date

Going on a first date can be awkward. You are trying to get to know your date and trying to let her get to know you. Making a good impression on a first date will usually lead to a second date and possibly a relationship.

1. Pick an appropriate activity. Ideally, a first date with someone should be in a place where you will be able to talk and get to know each other while having a good time. A good example is dinner followed by a walk or other activity that you both enjoy.

2. Dress appropriately for the date. You need to take into consideration what you will do on the date when picking your outfit. For example, a tuxedo or evening gown would be a little much for dinner and a movie. Your clothes should be clean and presentable. You should feel comfortable in the outfit you wear on your first date.

3. Smell your best. Make sure that you shower before your date. Be sure that if you wear cologne or perfume, that you wear an appropriate amount. Being on a date with a person with an overpowering scent is unpleasant and will almost certainly ensure that your first date will be your last.

4. Be on time. Showing up late on a first date is a good way to make a bad first impression. This will show your date that you are inconsiderate and that you aren't dependable.

5. Turn your cell phone on vibrate or silent and leave it alone until after the date. Answering your phone on a first date is disrespectful.

6. Keep the conversation interesting. Make sure that you both have a chance to talk. Dominating the conversation or being silent are both bad ideas. Try to make sure that you are talking about things that interest both of you.

7. Pay attention to body language to find out if the date is going well. If your date seems stiff or uninterested in what is going on, you may want to try to find something else to do on your date.
