Things You'll Need:
- High loft golf club
- Golf clubs
- Golf ball
-
Step 1
Choose the right club. Phil Mickelson, king of the flop shot, suggests a wedge with at least a 60 degree loft. Anything less may make your trajectory too low.
-
Step 2
Determine what sort of swing to use. This follows directly from your lie. You want the club head to scoop underneath the golf ball. If the ball is fluffed on some grass, use a shallower swing. If you're on a tight lie, you need to swing under the ball.
-
Step 3
Open your stance towards your target. Twist your left foot and shoulder 30 degrees left of your mark. Keep the club face pointed straight towards your target.
-
Step 4
Align the ball just behind your leading foot. This ensures that you strike the ball during your upswing, giving it a more vertical trajectory.
-
Step 5
Open the club face and keep it open during your entire swing.
-
Step 6
Follow through with the shot. A smooth upswing guarantees the ball stays on your intended trajectory. It helps to imagine someone is taking a picture of your finished swing.
