Things You'll Need:
- Water reclaim system (optional)
- Energy efficient lighting
- Perennial plants with a low water need
- High pressure hoses
- Biodegradable soaps
-
Step 1
Have a water reclaim system installed in your car wash if you can. If this is outside of your budget, or isn't practical for the site on which you're building the type of car wash you have, that's fine. There are other things you can do to green your new car wash.
-
Step 2
Use only energy efficient lighting for your car wash. Use compact fluorescent lighting to save electricity. In addition, remember that compact fluorescent light bulbs last longer than many other bulbs, so you won't have to replace them as often and you will reduce your impact on landfills.
-
Step 3
Add containers for recyclable materials next to your regular trashcans. Many customers will throw away their soda cans, water bottles and other recyclable materials. Either you can have the recycling center come to your business site and pick up the materials or you can take them to the center yourself.
-
Step 4
Go green with your landscaping, if you choose to landscape your business site. Only use perennial plants that don't need much water. Most plants that are native to deserts are good choices.
-
Step 5
Make sure that your car wash has high pressure hoses. These hoses use less water than low pressure hoses because they have the ability to wash dirt and soap suds off the car more quickly.
-
Step 6
Use biodegradable soaps and other cleaning agents in your car wash. These won't have a damaging effect on the environment and will probably be gentler on your customers' cars.

on 4/3/2009 That's one way. Of course, going green shouldn't have to mean washing your car with "dirty water." Using Auto Guard waterless car cleaner, you can save water altogether and get a nice wax shine on top of that! Check out www.autoguard.com to see what I mean.
