Things You'll Need:
- 2 1-inch black pipes, 6-inches long,
- 1-inch black T pipe
- 8-inch black pipe
- Drill
- ¼ inch drill bit
- 24-inch charcoal grill
- Hacksaw
- Sand
- 12 firebricks
- 1-inch black elbow
- 1-inch black pipe, 18-inches long
- Blower
-
Step 1
Screw an end cap onto each of the 6-inch long pipes and place a pipe in a vise. Tighten the vise and drill a hole just outside of the threads with a ¼ inch drill bit. Measure 1/2 inch towards the other end and drill another hole. Continue drilling holes the same distance apart until you have reached the cap on the other end.
-
Step 2
Drill an offset row of holes on each side of the initial row and repeat the process on the other 6-inch pipe.
-
Step 3
Connect the 6-inch pipes onto the "T" connector so that all of the holes face upwards. Drill a hole using the ¼ inch bit, ¾ inch in from the threads on each end of the "T." Screw the 8-inch pipe to the single end of the "T."
-
Step 4
Set the 24-inch grill in its stand and use a hacksaw to remove the center grill support. Drill out the burner so that the 1-inch pipe fits through while making sure the hole remains in the center of the grill.
-
Step 5
Pour sand into the grill to help stabilize the firebricks. Set six of the bricks out along the bottom in three rows, leaving enough room for the insertion of the pipe.
-
Step 6
Insert the 8-inch pipe through the center hole and connect the elbow and finally the 18-inch pipe. Connect the 18-inch pipe to your blower and you're ready to add natural charcoal.
-
Step 7
Build a box by standing the six remaining firebricks on their long edge, on top of the first set of bricks. Light your charcoal and you're ready to work.
