Firefox is normally a lean, mean, no-frills web browser that runs smoothly and looks good. One of its greatest assets, however, is the ease with which you can customize it. Mozilla, Google and other third-party developers offer interesting extensions that add to Firefox's already outstanding functionality. Here's how to select, download and install your favorite extension.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Launch Firefox. Head to the Mozilla Add-Ons webpage. This should be your first stop for Firefox extensions. It's organized and easy to navigate.

  2. Step 2

Browse through the add-on categories listed on the left side of the page. These are the broad genres of extensions Mozilla offers for Firefox. Check the front page for any featured or newly developed extensions.

  3. Step 3

Open the page containing the add-on you want to install. Once it's loaded, click on the big button labeled "Add to Firefox."

  4. Step 4

Wait for the installer file to signal it's ready for downloading, and then click "Install Now."

  5. Step 5

Restart Firefox to complete the installation process.

Tips & Warnings
  • Select the "Add ons" option from the "Tools" drop-down menu to check for updates to Firefox's core set of extensions, such as Firebug and Talkback.
