Create a list of items for your scavenger hunt. When one thinks of a witch's brew, the image of creepy, crawly items some to mind. Rat's hair, newt eyes, worms and more are just some of the common items that go into the cauldron. List 15 or so ingredients.

Find the items for your hunt at a party store. This is a where your imagination comes into play, as you'll need substitutes for rat hair and newt's eyes. Look for items that resemble these items. For instance, for a "calves tail" you can use the popular cow tail candy. Continue shopping until you cross each scavenger hunt item off your list.

Make master lists for each scavenger hunt team. Next to each item jot a clue as to where people will find it.

Hide the items according to the clues you gave on the scavenger hunt list.

Divide the party into teams. Assign a parent to help the younger children on their hunt.

Set a time limit of 30 minutes for each team to complete the scavenger hunt.

Send the teams on their way. When they return, see which team found the most items on the list, declare a winner and award "spooky" prizes to each member. Then serve the cookies, candy or other Halloween treats.
