How to Make Sparkling Snow Play Dough

Encourage your kids to have some good, clean fun and make them a big batch of sparkling snow play dough. They'll love the look and feel of the dough as they create their very own shimmering winter wonderland. Sparkling snow play dough isn't just for winter, because it's fun to play with any time of year.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 cups water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups salt
  • 6 tsp. vegetable oil
  • 6 tsp. cream of tartar
  • Heavy saucepan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Waxed paper
  • Silver or iridescent glitter
  • Resealable plastic bag
  1. Step 1

    Combine 3 cups water, 3 cups flour, 1 1/2 cups salt, 6 tsp. vegetable oil and 6 tsp. cream of tartar in a heavy saucepan.

  2. Step 2

    Cook the sparkling snow play dough over medium heat, stirring it with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms a ball.

  3. Step 3

    Remove the play dough from the saucepan and put it on a piece of waxed paper. Knead in the desired amount of iridescent or silver glitter.

  4. Step 4

    Store the sparkling snow play dough in a resealable plastic bag.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your sparkling snow play dough sealed in its plastic bag or it will dry out. If this happens, you may be able to reconstitute it with a few drops of water.
  • Remind everybody to wash their hands well before they play with the sparkling snow play dough. Otherwise, the dough won't remain sparkling white for very long.
  • Although sparkling snow play dough is non-toxic, it's not a good idea to eat it, as it can cause tummy upsets. For that reason, it's best to keep it out of the reach of animals and small children.
