Step 1
Stand astride your BMX bike at the edge of the spine ramp. Make sure the pedal positions are at 3 and 9 o'clock. Grip the handlebars firmly and balance the body on the seat.
-
Step 2
Roll straight down the center of the ramp. Your legs are quite straight but the torso is leaning forward with bent arms. Focus your head and eyes on where you are going.
-
Step 3
Bend the knees as you approach the ascent of the spine, keeping your head up and your body slightly hunched forward.
-
Step 4
Lift the front wheel by pulling up on the handlebars slightly as you straighten your legs. If the spine jump is correct, the back half of the bike will skip over the spine a split second later. You should be sideways as you cross from one side of the spine to the other.
-
Step 5
Twist the torso 180 degrees on your descent as you knock your right peg against the top of the spine ramp.
-
Step 6
Turn the front wheel so it connects with the ramp but in the opposite direction from the one in Step 1. Be sure to land on your back wheel first.
-
Step 7
Straighten up the front tire if it needs it and allow the bike to roll straight down the other side of the spine ramp backwards.
