Driving is a necessary part of many people's lives and can be a liberating experience. It can also be scary and frustrating due to various circumstances. In many cases, a poor driving experience is derived from the level of etiquette practiced by the other drivers. If every driver is courteous, the experience will be more pleasant for all.

  1. Step 1

Use your turn signal at every opportunity. All too often we are caught off guard or simply do not know what another driver is trying to do when he doesn't use a turn signal. Don't be that person. Whenever you are turning or changing lanes, give other drivers plenty of warning with a turn signal.

  2. Step 2

Blow your horn sparingly. The horn is on your car to act as a warning to unsafe conditions, not as a stress reliever. Often times when drivers are stuck in traffic or feel that another motorist is not driving fast enough, they blow the horn. Take a deep breath instead and lay off the horn.

  3. Step 3

Do not tailgate another driver on the highway under any circumstance. Not only does this frighten drivers and increase the risk of accidents, it annoys those around you. If a driver won't change lanes for you, simply wait at a safe distance instead.

  4. Step 4

Pass only in designated passing areas, especially on two-lane roads. One great break in etiquette, as well as traffic laws, is passing on a double line. This surprise tactic can get you and the car you are passing seriously injured or killed. The double line is there to protect us, not hold us back.

  5. Step 5

Avoid running traffic lights. This method of saving a few seconds is dangerous and can cause serious injury to other drivers and pedestrians.
