Sweeping an opponent off their feet is a great wrestling move that immediately places the attacking wrestler in a dominant position. A body lock move performed simultaneously ensures the move's success. Always use appropriate padding and floor covering when performing or practicing wrestling techniques. Below find instructions on how to perform a body lock and sweep in wrestling.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Reach around your opponent with your dominant hand as you increase your height. This means moving from a lower bent knee position barely above the floor to a standing crouch that allows you to dominate your partner height wise. The idea is to sweep your opponent up in your arms and place them in the correct position for a body lock.

  2. Step 2

Reinforce your grip on your partner as you pull them slowly to a standing position. This is the body lock and means that both of your arms lock around your opponent's torso in a firm grip.

  3. Step 3

Step in towards your opponent as you continue to hold them in a body lock position. Keep your head upright and your knees bent. Your partner will attempt to mirror the move by grabbing your waist so it is important to attack and defend at the same time.

  4. Step 4

Secure the lock by crossing your forearms in a butterfly lock. This means to use the strength of your entire arm and not just your hands to increase the power of the body lock.

  5. Step 5

Lift your partner off their feet by pulling on your arms as they remain secure around their torso. Be sure to arch your back and keep your knees bent as your opponent's weight settles on top of you.

  6. Step 6

Twist your torso, retaining your body lock grip as you and your opponent fall to the floor. Your partner should be completely off balance and helpless at this point.

  7. Step 7

Land on top of your partner, retaining the lock hold as you press your body weight against them and drive them into the mat. Prepare for the pin and the points.
