Step 1
Draw inspiration from your trials and tribulations. After Christina hit the music scene in her teens, she found herself surrounded by many people who were not necessarily a positive influence in her life. Songs such as "Fighter," "Singin' My Song" and "Beautiful" all deal with rejection and betrayal from other people, which ultimately made Christina a stronger person.
-
Step 2
Write about deeply personal issues. The song "I'm OK" from Christina's album, "Stripped," chronicles Christina's childhood memories of growing up in a household with domestic violence.
-
Step 3
Address your significant other in your songs. In songs such as "Loving Me For Me" and "Underappreciated," Christina sings directly to her significant other.
-
Step 4
Tackle gender inequality. In her song "Can't Hold Us Down," Christina tackles double standards with such lines as "am I not supposed to have an opinion/should I be quiet just because I'm a woman."
-
Step 5
Incorporate spoken-word intros into your songs. Christina will often add a spoken-word interlude to a song, which introduces the topic she's about to address.
-
Step 6
Add a song to your album that's purely for fun. Songs such as "Genie In A Bottle" from Christina's debut album, and "Dirrty" from her "Stripped" album were huge dance hits, despite the fact that their lyrics weren't deep or personal.
