How to Look Like Avril Lavigne at the Beginning of Her Music Career
When Avril Lavigne first hit the music scene as a teenager, she was dubbed the "punk princess" of pop music for her rebellious attitude and personal style. The unique look that set Avril Lavigne apart from her contemporaries of the day, such as Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, ironically became something that Avril's legions of devoted fans also wanted to adopt as their own.

1
Wear clothes that are tight on top, baggy on bottom. Early in her music career, Avril Lavigne would often pair a tight tank top or t-shirt in black, white or horizontal stripes with baggy track pants in black or camouflage.
-
2
Spell out your attitude. Just in case her clothes didn't already portray Avril as a rebel of bubble gum pop, she often chose clothes that said this for her, such as garments emblazoned with phrases like "Rebel" and "People Suck."

3
Adorn your neck and wrists with accessories. Never much of an earring girl, Avril wore loads of black wristbands and bracelets with metal accents early on in her music career. Around her neck, she would wear a men's tie, or a punky necklace with a silver pendant strung on a black leather cord.
-
4
Select dark makeup shades. Early Avril would often line her eyes entirely in black, and paint her nails black.
-
5
Keep locks long and straight. When she first made her music debut, there was not a kink to be found in Avril's stick-straight hair. She would always wear it down, and occasionally accent with random stripes of color, such as pink.
-
6
Sport Converse sneakers or other skate shoes on your feet. Avril was able to bounce around on stage in comfort, wearing sneakers most popularly worn by skaters.
