Step 1
Check the denomination, which is usually on screen but is also indicated by a light above the machine. If the machine is a penny, the light above is white or pink. Red lights are for nickel machines, yellow for quarters, green for dimes and blue for dollars. If you see a multi-line slot with a purple light, you might want to reconsider. Those are as much as $100 per line.
-
Step 2
Hit the payout button on the screen. The last or first screens on the payout screens usually show how the lines go across the screen. When you play multi-line slots, not all machines have the same payout lines. If the machine fails to pay you on a win, you want to know and alert a slot tech.
-
Step 3
Read about the bonus rounds. You need to know what to do when you get a bonus round if there's one on your machine. See if you need to play maximum amounts to get into the bonus round.
-
Step 4
Look for the high jackpot. Many machines have jackpots exceeding $1,000,000. The payout chart tells you if you need to play maximum coins to get that. Check out the top of the machine. If it says, "$100,000,000 with maximum coins," you have to play maximum for the top prize. You can still play the multi-line slot machine, but you won't receive the top prize if you hit.
-
Step 5
Find the number of lines by looking at the numbered buttons in front of you. The top row of buttons tells you how many lines there are on the machine. When you play multi-line slots, there may be as many as 245 lines. Many times you don't have to pay 245 coins to play all lines. The buttons should tell you how much it costs to play one coin per line. Play enough so you can get in any bonus rounds offered.
-
Step 6
Examine the bottom row of buttons. These buttons tell you how many coins you play per line. If the machine is a penny machine and has 100 lines and you play 10 pennies per line, you spend $10.00 every time you spin.
-
Step 7
Realize that some machines simply are set to pay low. The average payout for a casino is between 80 and 90 percent. That doesn't mean that each machine pays that amount. Some pay 150 percent and others pay 30 percent. Watch for winners. Notice the kind of machine and the denomination. If all machines with elephants eating bananas look like they pay or nickels seem to hit, play those types of machines first.
