How to Bargain Shop in Florence

Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. Famous for its vendors selling fine leathers and beautiful crafts in its central bazaar, Florence has quickly become one of the world's most coveted shopping hot spots. Bargain shopping in Florence can be overwhelming if you don't know a few things about the area. Learn how to bargain shop in Florence and find the perfect item for the perfect price.

Instructions

    • 1

Take some time to map out where you will be shopping in Florence. Of course you will want to visit the famous bazaar in the center of town, but make sure that you get a map to help you navigate. Note that the finest shops line the bridges of Florence but are often more expensive, while the best deals can be found on the outskirts of the village.

    • 2

Decide if you are looking for brand name labels. If so, then visit the stores and outlets that lie just outside the city limits. For fine linens, visit the Tessilarte outlet or the outlet mall just outside off Florence that sells designer labels such as Gucci, Salvatore Feragamo and Fendi.

    • 3

Search for jewelry deals at one of the more famed bargain jewelers in Florence in the Ponte Vecchio. It's just outside of the Duomo on the right hand side of the bridge called Gherardi E Ghilardi. You can find great deals on gold and other fine stones.

    • 4

Browse your favorite areas of the square before committing to any specific items. Often times, you can find a dealer who will match prices if you tell them someone else has it for cheaper. Make sure that you know the going rate for certain items so you do not get taken advantage of by dishonest shop owners.

    • 5

Pay special attention to the older vendors, since they often will have set ups outside the store with bargain deals on wonderful artisan crafted items. You will see some of the more expensive ones that lie on the Ponte Vecchio. Haggle with store owners, since it is expected and try to always lower their price by at least 10 to 15 Euros. This discount is about standard adjustment; of course, many vendors will go further.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check out the Dolce and Gabbana outlet located in Florence, south of the city on the outskirts of town.

  • For great deals on designer knockoffs, check out the blankets of Gypsy sellers who often sell formidable replica designer bags and sunglasses. However, watch out for the police as they often break up the sales if they can.
