How to Wear Layered Clothing
During the winter months, layering your clothes is necessary. This is especially true if you live in or you visit an area where snow and ice occur. Layering your clothes properly will insulate your body to keep heat in and cold out.

1
Start with a breathable layer such a t-shirt and light shorts. Moisture wicking or cotton clothes are good options. This layer will pull moisture away from your skin if you sweat.
-
2
Put on a light layer that will insulate. Thermal pants and shirts are lightweight but they are good insulators. This layer will serve to keep your body heat near your body.
-
3
Add a heavy outer layer. Sweatshirts, sweaters and thick pants are some choices for your outer layer. This layer will help to keep the cold air away from your body.
-
4
Cover up with a good winter coat. Ideally, your coat should be thick and lined with a water proof layer. The length you choose to wear will depend on the rest of your outfit and the elements that you will brave that day.
-
5
Protect your head. You can lose a lot of heat from the top of your head, so wear a hat or cap. You can wrap a scarf around your head if you find yourself without a hat.

6
Insulate your feet and hands. Frostbite happens more often on hands and feet than on any other part of the body. You should wear thick socks and closed toe shoes to protect your feet. Mittens or gloves will protect your hands.

7
Consider wearing a ski mask or wrapping a scarf around your mouth and nose if the temperature is very low or if it is windy. This will protect your face from the elements.
